“Count me in as sharing Donald Trump’s New York values! That includes standing up for women’s heath funding, even when the GOP tide ran in the opposite direction. It also includes being a competitive, relentless, tell-it-like-it-is job creator, on a massive scale.
I remember New York in the 1970’s. Abandoned, unfinished buildings marred the skyline. The Bronx was burning, arson fires for insurance money. The city was bankrupt. Then a Sinatra song woke up the city. “If I can make it there, I’m gonna make it anywhere.” Donald Trump took over the seedy Commodore Hotel, transformed it into the Grand Hyatt at Grand Central Station, and the job creation hasn’t stopped since. In a city of tough unions, tougher construction workers, and intransigent bureaucrats, he became king of the hill, top of the heap.
Now Trump has been paying attention to the nation’s problems. He understands that without enforced borders, we have no nation. He won’t let political correctness impede the fight against terrorism. He gets the macroeconomic big picture, as any Wharton graduate with his connections must, just to pace in the conversation. He rightly sees most politicians as small people trying to control an economy which they’ve never stimulated from the inside. Trump was so put off by Barack Obama’s anti-capitalism that he couldn’t even believe the guy was an American. Trump intends to hit the “undo” button on the Obama agenda. One of the few politicians I do respect, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, told us early on that people shouldn’t underestimate his friend Donald. Trump minded him of Ronald Reagan.
Like Reagan, Trump has an intuitive mastery of media. As a successful television showrunner, Trump listens to his audience. All that talk about ratings is him keeping his fingers on the pulse of — well, us — so he can reach out directly to those neglected by politicians and media gatekeepers.
Donald Trump is what the founders envisioned for political leaders: successful achievers from other fields who take a turn at public service. He’s a winner, and America will win by choosing him.”
